Switching from Thumbtack to BuildX, in a weekend.

Self-serve import steps for contacts, jobs, and history from Thumbtack. No sales calls, no migration fees, no downtime mid-season.

Step 1: Export what you own

You own no software data in a lead marketplace, so export what matters: reviews, request history with outcomes, and customer contacts. Save profile content, photos, and top-performing responses.

Save plan sets, contracts, and closeout documents to a folder per job. You will reattach the live ones in step 3.

Step 2: Import in this order

Customer contacts first with review links saved, then pricebook and assemblies, then open booked requests with current status so each becomes a budgeted BuildX job.

Open jobs next with current budget and schedule status, not full history. History follows once the crew trusts the new numbers.

Step 3: Cut over one job

Keep introductions flowing while BuildX runs the work: quoting, portal, and invoice from one budget on every new request, reviewing contact spend monthly. Prove it where the stakes are real but contained.

Then move the rest. Most shops finish the overlap in two to four weeks and wonder why they waited.

Questions shops ask

Do I need to talk to sales to migrate?

No. Every step above is self-serve. If you want help, the help center and contact page reach working humans.

What happens to my history?

Closed-job records import as reference files attached to customers, so the story stays searchable without polluting live budgets.

Should I cancel Thumbtack when switching?

Not immediately: Thumbtack rents introductions while BuildX owns job execution, so overlap pays while cost per booking stays profitable. Export contacts and reviews first, run bookings through BuildX portals that earn direct repeats, then trim contact spend as owned demand compounds.

How long does the switch take?

One weekend for setup and the pilot job, then two to four weeks of overlap while remaining jobs move. Most shops cut over fully once the pilot invoice reconciles.
